Default SKY+ contract question

Hi, my auntie has Sky+ and she was sent a couple of letters telling her that
she must have the phone line permanently plugged in. So she has done this,
and since recieved another more threatening letter, but when talking to a
Sky representitive on the phone she told them that she turns the box off
when she goes to bed. To which the Sky rep said "you cant do that, it's part
off the contract". Is that true? Why on earth would they make you leave the
box turned on?

cheers,

chris

I think you will find that not only has your aunt got a Sky+ box she also
has a "mirror subscription" at a reduced cost for a second box on her
premises.

Under these circumstances Sky expect the two boxes to call home from the
same phone-line when ever they command them so to do.

This is of course to prevent her from lending her 'spare' viewing card to
her favourite nephew.

Ask her to send them her next Electricity bill and ask them to pay it, No
company can FORCE you to be stupid and leave electrical items on all night!
If need be you can get a local fire prevention officer to state such a fact.

Is'nt Sky getting like the old days of school/teacher scenario "Sorry,Unless
you have a note...."

Basically, I'd tell them straight up to f*ck off and stick their box up
their asses,Then send them a bill for removal of the dish.
This CAN be done, A neighbour was so frustrated with Sky big brother
tactics,He got a solictor involved which ripped to shreds their *set in
concrete* contract regulations :-))

The contract does NOT mention that the box must be switched on
But Does say
"You must keep your telephone line connected to Sky+ box at all times" etc

--- then the interesting bit

"You must allow us to collect information through this line, including your
telephone number ( caller line identification or CLI)

I think the important word is * Allow * .
To allow I think SKY are inferring that the box should have power to it but
can be in standby
No doubt this has been discussed before
