With DVRs as low as they are now, two Tivos (instead of simple receivers) is a reasonable approach. I have two and I sometimes record the same thing on both so I can watch from wherever I want. I have certain shows I like to watch while I excersize and others where I am more flexible. It is nice to have the option. Of course, I guess it might be possible to pipe each DVR to the other TV, but this is easier. What I did was put all 3 of my DirecTiVos (2 SD, 1 HD) in the same location (rack next to living room TV) and combine all of their outputs using modulators and then feed that modulated signal throughout the house. Now all 6 TVs have access to any of the 3 TiVos at any time. Just change channels on the local TV to select with TiVo you are viewing. I also like being able to record two shows while I watch a third I already recorded. It took a week to get a queue, but now the problem is finding enough time to watch everything. |

My HD unit uses DVI but my SD unit uses S-Video. Specifically, what kind of modulators and cabling did you use? What output from your DVR was used? Anything else that might be important. |

My HD unit uses DVI but my SD unit uses S-Video. But also has other outputs on it as well, which are active when you set the box to 480i. Specifically, what kind of modulators and cabling did you use? What output from your DVR was used? Anything else that might be important. I'm using a ChannelPlus modulator. I have the kids DirecTiVo RF going to the Antenna passthru. My wife DirecTiVo going via composite to Input A, modulated to channel 115 and the composite from my HD-DirecTiVo going to Input B, modulated on channel 125. The output of the Channel Plus feeds the rest of the house the same way cableTV or an OTA would. I have remote control transmitters at each (distant) TV taking the remote control signals and sending them back down the coax to the equipment (Xantech XTraLink2). The TV where the equipment is located is all direct connect or through my home theatre receiver and controlled via a Phillips ProntoPro (TSU6000). The distant TVs, just change to ch 3 for kids TiVo, 115 for wife and 125 for mine. |
