I admit I miss my PC whilst away on my hols and dread the hundreds of
junk/spam mails waiting when I get back (not to mention the Usenet
groups) but I know I'm better off for the complete break.

I wouldn't dare say get a life...........................

When on holiday I normally manage to slip away for a quick half hour
with our teenage lads, while my wife is in a craft shop. We find
ourselves an internet café, they sit down and exchange gibberish with
their friends on MSN Messenger, and I dive into the Newsgroups via
Google. Everyone's happy, (and 'sad') ! :-)

I took the opposite approach, I went on holiday with about 30 regulars from
a forum. No computers needed then!!

In March, 2004 I took the opportunity of redundancy (yes, at my age it
was an opportunity well worth it!) and early retirement.

Having been involved in the broadcast DTT business since switch on, and
taking phone calls at any time of the day and night, leaving was a
holiday!

I still keep an interest by reading the newsgroups, and Digital Spy, and
can use my contacts to pass on observations made here ;-) It's a
therapy....

Bill's diaries did keep me sane during some difficult times - management
don't see the need for more comprehensive monitoring, for example. And
inside the industry there are characters and situations just like Bill
experiences! Only I can't pass them on.

So Bill, hope the holiday does work and you get your sense of humour
back, and we see the Rigger's diaries back soon.

Well I'm back and feeling full of beans! There's a pile of problems on
my desk but am I downcast or disheartened? NO!

Gentlemen, I'm very flattered by these remarks, and I apologise for the
paucity of the 'Rigger's Diary'in the last few months.

I have to be honest. For some time now I've been overwhelmed with work
and life generally, to the extent that I have been a bit humourless,
or, as those close to me would put it, a miserable old *******.

BTDT, still taking the medication G

Hil saw me degenerating into a nervous wreck and dragged me off kicking
and screaming for a holiday a fortnight ago. We're still away but will
be back soon. The best holidays are those that let you see your life
with a more accurate perspective, and that's what's happenned.
Decisions have been made, serious ones, about lifestyle and workload,
and hopefully I won't get so fraught again.

So with a bit of luck I'll be able to see the funny side again soon. If
so, I'll be sure to report it here!

Hint: young Mr Dibnah left us a while back (I wonder if he was
cremated?)

This might leave a hole in the BBC for a technically knowledgeable and
entertaining presenter of a Northern persuasion. Such as for example a
part-time aerial rigger.

Do you have a flat cap?

I've got a better idea. Bill for number 10 !!

The dilligent riggers appreciation party.

Manifesto:

1. Since communication is such an important part of a doctor's job,
no-one allowed to practice medicine unless they can speak tolerably
intelligible English.

2. A licencing scheme to be introduced whereby genuine trade vehicles
can use bus and taxi lanes, and park more easily outside premises where
they are needed for work.

3. The powers of the National Parks to be reduced so they cannot
interfere with the legitimate economic activities of farmers and other
country dwellers.

4. The Health and Safety industry to be reformed. It should be
recognised that current practice alienates the workforce against H & S
and is therefore counter-productive. Real safety issues are being
ignored by workers because there is now a belief that H & S is just
self-serving bureaucracy. Common sense should prevail.

5. All revenue from speed cameras to be hypothocated and used to build
better roads.

6. Private wheel clamping to be totally banned. Land owners to use
normal civil remedies if vehicles are left on their land.

7. Education budgets for Young Offender Institutions to be increased to
the point where education is full time for all inmates.

8. At present OFSTED is used to sack older teachers by the means of
trumped up incompetency charges, in order to avoid redundancy payments
and allow the employment of younger, cheaper, staff. This practice to
end.

9. Reform of the General Practice 'payments for targets' system, since
it is widely accepted that this is distorting primary healthcare
provision.

10. Roadfund to be abolished and the revenue shortfall made up by
increases in fuel tax. This will help the rural and elderly populations
who are heavily reliant on their cars, and will penalise sales reps.

11. Corporal punishment (12 strokes of a school cane) to be used (at
the court's discretion) in addition to other punishments in cases of
the criminal assault of childen, women, the elderly, the disabled, or
the mentally handicapped, whether for robbery, theft, or for no
apparent reason. The punishment to be shown on television, with
closeups of the recipient's face.

12. The BBC to be penalised whenever they show bias against the
provinces. For instance, reporting mild snow in London as headline news
when serious bad weather in Sheffield isn't mentioned.

I hope nothing here is controversial. I wouldn't want to cause a flood
of postings.

With the possible exception of 10, I'd vote for that!

That's how it is in Scotland thankfully.

1) Agree but I would also like to see this part of the manifesto extended to
those nurses who dish out the drugs to patients in hospital. I dread to
think how many people have taken something they weren't supposed to, or not
been given something they really needed. I've seen this up close and
personal lately and it's dreadfully worrying. Perhaps the worst part is that
those mad old people who need protecting the most are the ones most likely
to just take whatever is given.

2) Definately definately.

4) Definately

7) Definately

10) Ooh not sure about this. I do a fair few miles. Agreed that the elderly
get whalloped here, while the large tarmac ripping HGVs do not (but do in
other ways perhaps?)

11) Definately. Humiliate the scumbags.
