I'm using an old Philips DTX6371 OnDigital box to receive Freeview. I
recently recorded a couple of shows on ABC1 and the recordings turned out unwatchable, with no picture about half the time and a picture switching between colour and black and white the rest of the time. It looked exactly like the effect I've seen on recordings of Macrovision protected video tapes. Is ABC1 broadcasting with Macrovision or something similar? |

I doubt if Freeview STBs even include it now! Early versions of the Thomson DTI1000 had it turned on for the VCR port, until a later OTA upgrade. You couldn't record at all. (These versions had no UHF modulator, either.) The explanation was that the chipset came with Macrovision built-in, and enabled by default, so maybe it's more common than you think. It's possible something in the abc1 stream triggered it - maybe a PPV flag, if there is such a thing. |

It is still correct that any broadcaster deliberately using Macrovision without a licence would get sued by Macrovision Inc.! |
