Default Right BBC Region on 101

Has anyone managed to phone Sky and get their default region for BBC1
changed?

When BBC Oxford came onto channel 955. I phoned up asking if it could
become my default region for channel 101. They said they couldn't do that,
because they had an agreement with ITV to only give people the correct
regional variation for their postcode.

My reply was that my postcode being OX might be a clue that Oxford was my
correct region. They said that I was already receiving the appropriate
channel on 101 as far as they were concerned. I said that how could
'Midlands' be my appropriate region, when as far as BBC is concerned
Oxford/Oxfordshire is now a sub region of the South. My anlogue NTL
connection gives me South, but does not do sub regions. Through a TV aerial
I get BBC Oxford, so why can't Sky give me the Oxford feed on Channel 101?

Also, people in the same town and even street as me get Oxford BBC on 101,
Is there any way I can change it?

Kev.

The BBC say what postcodes get what default regions - you can't change
it and neither can Sky. You should speak to the BBC if there is a
problem.

Give Sky a different address with the right postcode.

Very strange! My Sky card changed from "BBC W Midlands" on 101 to "BBC Oxford"
earlier this year - all without any intervention on my part!

Not really, There are more Brighton stories on BBC South East then on BBC
South.

AIUI all Brighton area Sky cards are deliberately set (at the request of
the BBC) to the South East region because Brighton is within the
editorial area. The Beeb would like the Whitehawk Hill transmitter to
carry the South East region too, but there are technical difficulties in
achieving this.

Much the same applies in Weymouth. The local TV transmitter carries BBC
South West (purely again for technical reasons) but Sky cards map the
more editorially appropriate BBC South to Ch 101.
