You shouldn`t be paying that for 1.5MB.

NTL prices are -

3 MB £37.99
2 MB £24.99
1 MB £17.99 (Supposed to be applying a 3Gig cap within the next 12mth but
doesn`t apply yet)

My current setup is as follows

NTL Family Sports and Movies £ 50.50
1.5 MB Broadband NTL £ 37.99
Talk Unlimited 24 £ 15.50

I am thinking of swapping to Sky and Bulldog, which would then cost

Full Sky TV package £ 41.00
Bulldog Broadband £28.50
(including unlimited phone calls) £10.50

This would obviously save money but is Bulldog worth it. I may have the
added cost of £60 for a new phone line, as I am not sure if I still
count as having a BT line. The box is still there but hasn't been used
since I moved in (1997)

I think NTL is becoming a total rip off when compared to Sky as the top
of the range package is almost £10 dearer on Sky and most of the
interactive stuff isn't available via NTL. In fact, if I migrate, I am
considering going for Sky+ which will make it a much better system IMHO.

yes, my girlfriend has just done a similar thing, switched from ntl cable to
sky and from ntl broadband to ukoline. 8mb connection now for her for the
same price as 3mb on ntl, soooooo lucky to live near the exchange. now she
saves money and gets more. my parents are about to do the same. it would
appear ntls latest price changes and 'upgrades' arent exactly having the
required effect.
cheers

I think I'm only getting the 150Mb service or possibly 200 now - whatever
their minimum has become, for £17.99. There are countless better deals than
that if you go back to a BT phone line. I'm happy with the service, for what
I do, but not the price.

To my mind Cable technology should be better/cheaper at any given time,
which was why I chose it about 7 years ago.

Should I be able to get the 1Mb for £17.99 - I'd be happy with that.

For TV I switched back to Sky Digital about 5 years ago, cheaper and much
better.

Only problem is I haven't got a TV aerial any more, so I still need to keep
up the £3 per month payment to NTL for their Old Analogue TV service to
connect the VCR up to. The Jerrold box has long since been disconnected.

If I were to cancel the NTL TV susbcription entirely would I still get the
standard terrestrial stuff through the cable, or would that go?

I'd like to get shot of NTL entirely, their phone service is quite good, but
there really are a crap company to deal with.

KOT.

The current minimum tier is 1Mb for £17.99. Ring 'em, you'll get an
upgrade.

Clara.net have an excellent binary news service and are reasonably
priced. Used them for a year or two to supplement ntl

Clara _are_ cheap for binaries but the retention is down to about
three days and I've had some problem with completion (nothing to
compare it with there though).

You're right. In fact I managed to upgrade to 1mb on their website.

Perhaps I'll stay with them for now. At £17.99 for BB and a telephone deal
that suits me, it's not worth the bother of changing at the moment.

Any ideas whether or not my analogue TV cable will go dead if I unsubscribe
from that service?

I also find that their max speed is about 1 Mb, compared to 2Mb I get
on ntl. There, I've said something nice about ntl, I wondered if it
would happen one day

The terrestrial stuff is broadcast down the cable line all the time (at
the moment) - you just need a splitter (F type I think) from Maplins and
lead a cable up to your VCR - it isn't encrypted at all - can't see why
you'd want to pay for it.

My only doubt is that newsgroups are unavailable on Bulldog. Do people
find lack of newsgroups a problem with their ISPs, as I presume they could
all be read via Google.

The only other added costs I think are for a modem. On this point, I
currently run my NTL broadband wireless via a Netgear router. I presume
this can still be done via Bulldog.

Any opinions/ ideas about what I am planning to do. Especially from people
who have done similar migrations, or are about to. I think NTL have become
far too aggressive with their pricing and I can only see one winner.

Just a comment really, I guess if the majority did the same and switched to
Sky I wonder what would happen to Sky's pricing if they had no competition?

Heh!...Total monopoly much as it is now you mean?

NTL have to pay SKY for carrying the same channels, As for pricing,I guess
you've heard the term *Sky High* ;-)

About the only thing Sky can't beat is anything not to do with TV
(Broadband,Telephone)

OT slightly but I'd just for once that Ad to come on "Sky..What do you want
to watch?" and a reply "Some channel without Dogs,Ads and Red dots
please,Can you help?" ;-)

I think it'll be Sky that's stopping (or certainly slowing down *TV via
Internet* in the U.K, I guess it'll never really get get off the ground
here.
Makes you wonder why people go for such high Broadband speeds (Downloading
U.S shows for free no doubt?)

Oo-er!, Political
