Default Yamaha remote - controlling other devices

Has anyone managed to get a Yamaha AX640 Home Cinema Amp remote (model
is RAV245 according to the facsia) to control other devices? I've so far
failed to get it to do anything at all with anything else :-(

In particular, I'm trying to get it to be able to control a pioneer
dv565a DVD player. I do what it says in the manual (press 'DVD', press
'CODE SET', enter 0108 or 0118, the two codes that are in the manual as
being 'pioneer') but it still doesn't seem to want to do anything to the
DVD player.

Is this setting the handset to talk the appropriate I/R commands to the
DVD player, or do these things get routed via the amp in some way?

Wouldn't be too bothered, but I appear to have lost the remote for the
DVD player!

Tony.

OK, I've got a Yamaha 630 and a Pioneer 646. Somewhat older but
definitely wiser by the sound of it.
I can get the Yam remote to look after everything except my cable box.
It does my TV, DVD, CD-R drive, Cassette Deck (didn't even have a
remote with it but what the hey) and VCR (various flavours too)
I'll check what codes I've got mine set to tonight and get back to you.
