Default Must I use a telephone line..or can I use a cell phone?

I'd love to get rid of my home telephone line, but I know that Tivo uses it
to link up with programming for the unit. My question is, can I use a cell
phone line for this purpose?

Thanks
MJ

No, you cannot.

It looks like you are a Comcast user, though, and AFAIK they only offer
cable, so you could use your cable connection to allow the TiVo to get
online instead.

If you already have a wired network and a Series 2 TiVo, it's really easy.
Just read http://customersupport.tivo.com/know...ic/tv2008.htm?

Get the comcast DVR. It's much more advanced than the standalone
Tivos. And you don't need a phone line.

In theory, yes. But you'd need an external modem that supports the
protocol for cell phone usage. I don't recall what they were, but there
was a couple. Some of my older modems supported one version or the other.
The problem being if the Tivo modem bank that answers supports it or not.
Might have been MNP10, but don't hold me to that. Yep, that's one of them.
USR DS modems use HST cellular, but it's preprietory to USR so both ends
must support the HST protocol. It appears that MNP10 is quite common now
as a search for MNP10 modems turns up lots of hits even for cheap modems.
