Default HDTV / HDCP / DVI

I have a Samsung 210T LCD computer monitor that is also HDTV "ready"
for 720p or 1080i. I has DVI-D, S-Video, & SVGA inputs - NO Composite
input. Samsung has designed the HDTV feed into the DVI-D input. It
appears as if the DVI input was designed prior to the HDCP (Copy
Protection) standard and does NOT have HDCP decoding built into the
DVI input.

Therefore, in the future I may not be able to view any/all "copy
protected" HDTV programming. I would like to maximize my dual use of
this monitor & somehow still use the DVI input for HDTV programming.
I am not a pirate or a "duper". I do not currently have HDTV level of
service.

Is anyone aware of a composite to DVI converter? OR, is anyone aware
of a Direct TV HDTV receiver still marketed with a non-HDCP DVI
output? Would the DVI output still work when the broadcaster's copy
protect flag was sent to the receiver? On the land cable front I
understand the local provider - Comcast is using a Motorola DCT 5100
as a HDTV receiver but the DVI output may be disabled and/or the tech
specs don't mention HDCP. Does anyone know the particulars of this
Motorola? Or, does anyone know how to enable the port?

Sorry if this has been covered in some earlier post.

Thanks for all your time & consideration!!!!!!!!!!

The 210T monitor provides two HDTV inputs. Both the DVI and the RGB
analog video input are HDTV inputs according to the specifications. If
there were an analog to DVI convertor the result would be degraded. The
objective is for only one digital to analog conversion process. An
analog to DVI convertor, if existing, would require two additional
conversion stages (an A/D and D/A); degrading the displayed picture.
Either DVI to DVI or analog to analog HDTV interconnection requires only
one D/A conversion stage; giving the best picture quality. For DVI to
DVI the D/A is in the monitor. For analog to analog the D/A stage is in
the STB receiver.

There is a possibility though; that some monitors may digitize the
analog input. My HDTV, as an example, does digitize the component video
inputs and the result is not good. This adds two extra stages in the
video path (an A/D and D/A); introducing noticeable distortion. There is
no need for these extra stages if the set were designed for optimal
video quality. Unfortunately, you don't find this out until you get hold
of the technical service manual.

There are several DTV tuners with SVGA outputs. I use a Zenith SAT-520
DTV/OTA to drive my NEC plasma monitor via the monitor's SVGA input using an
ordinary (albeit long) shielded SVGA cable - great results. An SVGA signal
ought to be superior to an SVHS signal.
