Hello
I have my 40 hour tivo unit connected to my network via a wireless nic. I would like to be able to eventually copy programs/data from the unit to a computer. I know that the unit is part of the network but do not know how I can see the files on it and am looking for some information on how to accomplish this. I appreciate the time. Thanks Joe |

Thanks Joe www.dealdatabase.com forums - data extraction. Lots of info there!! Before trying to deal with the possibilities, I would like to be able to 'view' the files on the TiVo just like any other client. Unfortunately I did not find basic info, but did see some software that might let me copy files at some point. I need to gather a flowchart of sorts so I can piece the process together and it starts for me at being able to make the TiVo part of my network. It also appears that I may have to 'hack' the TIVo to get this done. Is there a place I can gather the basic info I appreciate the time. Joe |

This is not for the faint of heart, though. A fair amount of reading and experimenting is required. Hacking the tivo is the only way to get to where you want to go, unless all you want to do is transfer recordings to your pc with TivoToGo. You need a SA Series 2 tivo to use TTG, go to the tivo website to learn more. TTG is not the best way to transfer recordings, but it is the easiest to implement. The transfers are somewhat slow, has to do with DRM issues. Also be aware that the newest tivos need a hardware mod to be hacked (at least for now). These include the tdc5400x series and the newer DirecTivos, not familiar with those. The tdc2400xx and older models can be hacked entirely with software. Rick |

I appreciate it. I went to the TIVO site later last night and installed the Desktop(Tivo To Go?). It finally decided to 'find' the network and allow me to see the recorded programs. Creeping along, I am now transferring one selection and, you are correct, it is not fast!! I am assuming when I get it, I will be able to play it...copy to a CD/DVD and maybe play it later. I am also assuming the better way is to use the hard drive directly without the Desktop Interface. Joe |

Joe Well, the 1.5 gb file transfer completed and the 1/2 hour program played back just fine with Media Player. Now, to move forward. Thanks for the help. Joe |

mfs_ftp or tytools will accomplish this, but both require hacking the
box. |
