Hello,
I tried to save some money and purchased a used tivo with bad modem. I thought I could do all the setup using ,#401. However I cannot seem to get this to work. I have tried with both a netgear FA120 and Linksys usb200, and either of these work. Does this only work with certain USB adapters, or is there something I am over looking. Everything I read online makes it sound very straight forward. If I cannot get this to work, will a external modem do guided setup? Will any serial modem work? Thanks Matt |

Does this only work with certain USB adapters, Yes, see http://customersupport.tivo.com/know...ic/tv2006.htm? for a list of specific adapters. However, the FA120 and USB200M are listed as compatible. You cannot run guided setup with a wireless adapter, but reportedly you should be able to do it with the wired adapters you are using. Check this page to make sure you're not overlooking something: http://customersupport.tivo.com/know...ic/tv1164.htm? I do notice that that page states that initial guided setup *cannot* be done this way, only repeating guided setup, but others seem to have indicated otherwise. Besides, since your's is used, I suppose you are repeating it anyway. or is there something I am over looking. Everything I read online makes it sound very straight forward. If I cannot get this to work, will a external modem do guided setup? Will any serial modem work? Supposedly, but I don't have any details on that, hopefully others will jump in on that. Randy S. |

No. It needs to be a real modem (not wincrap), and it has to be rs232, not usb. -- Abit KT7-Raid (KT133) Tbred B core CPU @2400MHz (24x100FSB) My server http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php Verizon server http://mysite.verizon.net/res0exft/cpu.htm |

I found an answer to this by trial and error and I haven't seen it listed
anywhere before so I thought I should share. I listened on phone and noticed the dial tone would go dead when tivo was plugged into the phone line. So I kept the tone alive by keeping a phone off hook until I heard the tivo dial and connect, then hung up phone this gave me a good connection that was able to do the setup. This may be that my modem had a different then most but worth a try. Thanks Matt "Matt" wrote in message ... Hello, I tried to save some money and purchased a used tivo with bad modem.
