Default deep, crisp, even, cold, wet, and dangerous

I have been on a roof for five and half frozen hours today, high on a
hill above a grim northern city. Despite having lots of good quality
gear on I gradually got chilled, and for the last two hours I was very
uncomfortable. The wind blew relentlessly from the north all day long.
When I got to the job this morning I found that someone had fixed an 85
cm solid dish onto a 2 inch steel aerial mast. The dish was a metre and
a half above the top wall bracket. The installer had evidently found
that he was one U bolt nut short, so astonishingly he had simply
overtightened the other nut. Unsurprisingly this unorthodox fixing
method for such a heavy windload had failed, allowing the dish to
plummet. There were lots of other bad things about the installation,
and I ended up replacing the whole thing including the aerials. Access
onto the flat roof was very difficult and it was necessary to use a
ladder up there, all nicely tied in place of course.
By the time I finished I was so cold and damp and miserable I was
having some difficulty maintaining my usual happy-go-luck air. I turned
the van heater and the Beethoven to max, and finished early.
Fair enough, I've had my moan. Thank you for listening.

Should be glad you weren't at Emley - even the canteen closed at
midday!

I assume that Van Heater is one of the lesser known composers?

Now I know why them fellers sound a bit castrato. Their knackers have
frozen off. . .
