This is a great device for basic Sky, (I have one) but no good for Sky+ ,
because it sends 'backup'. Thus every time you want to play something
back that you've recorded it stops the playback. I have had to retire
mine and keep removing the red plague myself. I try to avoid channels
that don't remove the red detritus on their own - the UKTV channels are
good here in that they only put the crap up for a minute or so either side
of a commercial break.

If you watch everything delayed the red dot goes and doesnt come back after
ad breaks and the like.
Just press pause for a second, then play. Apolgies if this is stating "the
bleedin' obvious"

In practice the dots either come back after the next ad break (4 times
per hour on Sky), or they are the "aggressive" type used last year on
Big Brother that come back every few minutes.

Sky Sports News is the worst offender. They have customised and
quadrupled the size of the dot and it comes back 10 seconds after
pressing backup.

The most firm reaction from Sky was in their meeting with LogofreeTV,
who proposed a "time-out" setting in the digibox's menus.

Regarding the RED DOT time-out, Sky are very resistant to this
control.

The best policy would probably be to actively NOT use any service or company
that in any way associates with Red Dots. Like boycotting advertisers that
use popups. Commercial companies will only listen to commercial imperatives.

Won't affect Sky directly becuase you have to have their services for sports
etc, and the BBC is far too high & mighty to care but five limited their
dogs after listening to complaints.
