Default Thin CRT TVs

I recall reading sometime last year - I think it was in "Television"
magazine - that the CRT manufacturers were developing very wide angle
deflection tubes, so that the whole TV would be around 1ft deep
(IIRC). OK too deep for wall mounting but fine for stand and shelf,
with all the advantages of CRT technology.
However, I've not seen anything since, not that I've actively looked.
Does anyone have any more info?
