Are both scarts RGB passthrough? if I connect using Skyplus VCR connector
to the recorder the picture is unwatchable.....

Basically I have it connected as follows - Skyplus VCR - Recorder in.
Skyplus TV-TV AV2 Recorder out-TV AV1

Either do this:

DVDR scart 1 = Sky+ VCR scart
Sky+ TV scart = TV scart 1

or this

Sky+ TV scart = DVD scart 2
DVDR scart 1 = TV scart 1

In either case:
Antenna = DVD RF in
DVD RF out = TV RF in.
Bypass the digibox.

Which works best will depend on your DVDR and how you use it so try
both. The former will probably work best.

I've got the 301 and it does this also. For some reason it does not
seem to like the sky+ VCR scart socket as an input

The second method Jomtien suggested works but does not pass through
the widescreen switching signal

The way I plan to set it up is:
Sky+ TV scart = TV scart one
SKY+ S-video and AV to DVD input scart using this
http://snipurl.com/cech
DVD output scart to TV scart 2

The outputs are identical (bar the RGB) and so there should be no
difference.

This must be due to a fault somewhere. Probably a design fault with
the DVDR.

That's what I thought but it seems i'm not the only one having this
problem - there must be something different that causes the DVDr not
to like te VCR output

It possibly is. A lot of VCRs do this too
