Keying a 'dot' and a 'space'

When you use the digibox handset to enter things like
post codes, email address etc, how to enter the space between the two parts
of the post code, and how do you enter the dot in the email address ?

Isn't this like a phone pad? Push a key rapidly and you get a sequence
of character options.
