Default I have a cunning plan

I was thinking of subscribing again to SKY for the value package (£19) per
month and came up with a cunning plan.
My mum was wanting the freeview channels so I plan to get her to get the
free install deal with half price subs to the full package for 3 months.
when this is done I will swap my existing receiver box and card with her new
one. Thus - I get the full monty for 3 months the subscribing to value pack
thereafter (which is more or less what I would be paying anyway for the
value pack - give or take 6£ in the first 3 months) and my mum gets a new
freeview digital dish installed. I know the phone line thingys the only
****er but I never had my in when I subscribed for the year...

Sounds a good idea, one many have taken.

Just don't confuse Freeview with Free To View (FTV) and Free To Air (FTA) -
Freeview is a service via your aerial.

I'm a tad confused by that - so what channels would I not get through the
sky box that I would get on a Freeview box ??

Joe.

If you only want the FTV and FTA channels on satellite, then you won't receive
the following channels on satellite without subscription (or at all**) which
are free on Freeview

Sky Travel
UKTV History
FTN
The Hits
TMF
UKTV Bright Ideas
Sky Sports News
ABC1 **

You will how ever receive a load of other channels free, either Free To Air
(no subscription and no card required) or Free To View (no subscription,
viewing card required)

If you look at: http://www.freesatfromsky.com/?pID=3 you will find a list of
what channels are free.

All are Free To Air, except ITV1, ITV2, Ch4 and Five which are Free To View
(card required, but no subscription) This is what the £20 pays for. Or you
can use a recent cancelled subscription viewing card.

You can do it even more simply.

Do as you describe and then just swap the two viewing cards over. Only
the premium channels require the card to be in the right box.
