hard drive upgrade

Anyone,
I bought a TIVO 2 series 40 and would like to upgrade the hard drive
instead of buying another TIVO unit, any way to do that?

Absolutely.

Two favorite ways:

1. Buy a premade hard-drive 20 minutes to drop it in yourself, costs
more.

places like www.weaknees.com are good.


2. Roll your own if you have a PC and are comfortable with
opening it up and messing with Moving hard drives around.

If you feel comfortable, definitely "2 - Roll your own.."

It's not that difficult. The hardest part is wading through all the
instructions to find the part that applies to your situation : )

I upgraded a Series 1 a couple years ago by adding an 80GB drive. I just
bought a 160GB drive for $65 shipped & taxed so the drive is cheap. The SW
is free, the instructions are free....

They sure are. I had to use a yellow highlighter to make sure I followed
only the applicable steps when I upgraded two years ago.

They do offer exactly the same br
command and steps, just got to weed through them to be sure you have

Picked up my new HD (120GB Segate Barracuda ATA V) for $57.  Can't wait
to put it into my TIVObr
and see some extra storage space (my wife has our 40 hour loaded with
Ellen and Dr. Phil).br

Anyone know for sure that Home Depot carries the Torx T10 and T15 L key
drivers??br

I'm sure they do (have the torx drivers).
Im a fan of Seagates also, quiet, and they run cool, and they're cheap. I have 2 120's in my series2 SA Tivo. No worries about what recording quality to use, high or best all the way.
