WTF is a Magic Eye? (apart from the 3D pictures, and the fluorescent
valves used on very early domestic tape decks)

Remote control extender over TV coax thingy for Sky?

Never seen an EM84 on a DTT box - very retro - I feel a mod for my DTR-1
coming up (not!)

(http://www.r-type.org/exhib/aaa0079.htm in case anyone's thinking WTF)

They were also used on some old valve radios - the strength of the signal =
the brightness of the valve!

Just buy one and read the instructions on the pack. It's easy.

The *real* magic eyes actually looked like an eye with a black 'pupil'. The
green fluorescence formed an 'iris' that expanded around it to show the
signal strength (or recording level if on a tape recorder). Then they made
ones where the fluorescence looked like twin mountains. Finally they made
the ribbon kind with two green ribbons that extended from the sides to meet
in the middle.

(If you haven't seen these you've probably no idea what I'm talking about.)

I think you're talking about EM87s, and others of that ilk.

Rod.

An EM35 if my memory serves! Later to be seen on the R1155 too.

You could well be right - the last valve I bought for it was an MU14
rectifier - about 15 years ago. The set hasn't been used for at least
that amount of time too. I think (know!) it will need a complete
safety/functional inspection before even getting close to being powered
up now!
