Default Q: Nova-t PCI BBC3 + BBC4 issues

Hi All,

Having a problem with my Nova-t PCI, running the 2.17 digital TV software.
When I go to BBC3 or BBC4 during their broadcasting hours, I just get the
DV3 logo, no video, no sound and the teletext box pops up showing me the
BBC3 teletext welcome page thingie.

At the moment, the only work-around I have is to un-install 2.17, completely
delete the hauppauge folder and all registry keys then re-install and
re-tune the channels.
It seems to be that if I click on BBC3 or 4 during the day when they aren't
broadcasting it somehow remembers that this isn't a broadcasting channel and
doesn't bother giving it to me in the evenings.

Does anyone have a better solution for this problem?
A quick google search yeilds many complaints about this problem but no
solutions.

Hope someone can help me out here.

Thanks!!

Regards,

Normally you shouldn't need to reinstal it should be enough to just rerun a
channel scan via Setup.

However since WinXP sp2 I haven't been able to run Setup or the program
Magazine.I'm runing the May release drivers from Hauppauge 2.17g I think

Incidently if you want to watch BBC 3 and 4, I can get them on CBBC and
CBeebies.

I've tried a few things but I suspect we will have to wait for a new set of
drivers.

Just had similar problems after upgrading from the 1.48 drivers, but I
think I've sussed it now.

If you channel scan when BBC3/4 or are NOT transmitting, the software
adds these channels in, but with no PID details. If you then scan
again when they are transmitting, it thinks they are different
channels, and adds them in with the same name, but correct PIDS.
However, you only see one instance of the channel in the software, and
when you try to tune to it, it often picks up the one with blank PIDS
(at least I think this is what is happening).

The solution is quite easy. In the channel scan dialogue, click the
double chevron ('') at the bottom to get to the advanced scan. Now
at the top you will see all the channels it knows about with their
PIDS. You should see two entries for BBC3 & 4. Hopefully one of each
will have PIDS of 0 - just click on it then press the Delete key,
leaving the entries with the valid PIDS.

The Hauppauge software really is a pile of crap in many respects. If
you channel scan on the Nebula, no matter what time of day, it
registers all the channels correctly - why can't the Nova-t do this?
After all, it's not at all user friendly, having to manually edit
channel lists, especially if you've no idea about PIDS and things.

Excelent, that solved it for me, tks.
I coulda re-run the channel scan to pick up the right PIDs but I get very
worried about touching my channel scan because I don't have the best signal
in the world. I've ended up in situations before spending two hours moving
the aerial around trying to re-acquire all my channels.

Thank you much Renzz, and i quite agree: the Hauppauge software is a
steaming pile of ****, I hope we see some improvements in future versions.
Is showshifter any better? Is it worth buying? Its about the only one I can
find thats compatible with my nova-t pci except for going to linux and
coding-heaven.

Tks again.

I tried Showshifter, it's better than the Hauppauge software, but IMHO
not worth buying, the epg is a right royal pain to set up - using xmltv,
but I did get it all working.
It would crash on a regular basis with my nova-t / radeon 9700pro and I
gave up.

I ended up getting a Nebula card and so far their software is much
better than either Hauppauge or Showshifter, a full channel scan takes
around a minute, finds all channels and the epg works perfectly
out-of-the-box.

The only problem I did have was a DOA card, I phoned Nebula UK and was
asked to return the dead card, they sent me a new card the same day
which arrived next morning. The support seems excellent, but you don't
get a paper manual and the html / online manual could do with expanding
/ updating.

I haven't managed to get it working in Gentoo linux yet, but I believe
MythTV is very good.

One fair thing that can be said about Hauppauge - over the years they
have been consistent in software quality - consistently crap - it's as
if their software developers get to a certain point and say "well, it
sorta works, most of the time, let's call it a done deal." - either that
or they work darn hard for a while on the s/w and then get bored and go
do domething else.
