I bought an extended warrantee from CIrcuit City last year for a Sony HD200.
When Sony replaced the unit under factory warantee, Circuit City would not transfer their warantee to the new unit. They gave me a pro-rated rebate. -- |

"Roach" wrote in message ... Hi there, I have a Panasonic PT-40LC12 40" box and apparently the bulb blows out consistently every year (hasn't happened to me yet). The bulb itself is near the $400 of the warranty, so multiply that by 4, the length of the warranty, and you'll find that it quickly pays for itself. Projection TV is one appliance that purchasing an extended warranty makes sense. But do try to get 5 year for 3 year's or 4 year's price. It's something you won't need when you buy it. But if you don't buy it, you might very well need it. Murphy's laws. |

It has surge protection coverage, No-Lemon Guarantee coverage, in home service, etc. I am torn whether to get the extended warranty or not. Can anyone give me any opinions on whether it is worth it ? I am particularly worried about a surge damage, etc. I would appreciate any advice on whether the contract is necessary or not. Thanks, Scott It's a Sony!! Buy all the protection you can afford. You are going to need it. Doug. |

I went into visions looking at the hitachi 46F500 & the 46W500. After
talking to me for awhile, the sales manager came out & was really trying to sweeten the deal. I flat out told them i was NOT ready to buy the TV today. The salesmanager said, " i do not mean to be a pushy salesman, but why are you not ready to buy today? What can we do to change your mind?" They offered to eliminate the admin fee ( i was going to do the 30 month NO interest deal, the admin fee is $100), they might also throw in some cables......... Now in my Canadian city, Best Buy just opened 2 stores last fall. I am sure Visions has felt that impact. I figure this is the reason they was so keen to make me a deal! The Brick is big & will be around for awhile. Futureshop is part of best buy, so no problem there. As far as i know, Visions is a Canadian outfit. They would be more likely to feel the $$$ pinch that other outfits. So what happenes if i get the 5 year extended warranty & they go out of business? Who do i see about the warranty? if i am buying a hitachi 46F500 or the 46W500 TV, do i really need an extended warranty ? They do come with a 1 year manufacture warranty & after all, its a Hitachi! ONE of the selling points is the very low failure rate of Hitachi TVs. Also, if anything is going to go, will it not go within the 1st year???????? |

It depends on if the service contract is supported by the store service department, or if they distribute a package from an outside vendor such as GE or something similar. if i am buying a hitachi 46F500 or the 46W500 TV, do i really need an extended warranty ? The XBR warranty covers all manufacturing defects with in-home service. On my gold Amex, the warranty is extended to 3-years in home. That should be sufficient. As for surge protection, I got a Monster Cable one, usually overpriced but for $20, I got 6 or 7 outlets and a $10k equipment guarantee. |

In general an extended warranty on any product is way overpriced and the
company behind the warranty makes a heck of a profit in addition to the salesman's commission. The type of set you purchased probably has a 99% chance of having no problems for 5 years unless you abuse it. Many salesmen love unsophisticated buyers so they can sell these highly overpriced products. National Warranty Insurance sold millions of dollars in warranties. On August 12th they went bankrupt and the clients lost $100 million. Extended warranties are not all that safe. JB "Scott G." wrote in message ... I just bought a Sony KV-30XBR910 at Circuit City.
