Default Antenna oddity?

I can't figure out why I can't receive a signal from the 2(?)
digital (HD) OTA stations in my area.

I just bought and installed the Zenith Silver Sensor, Highly
Directional, indoor antenna into my HDTV. This is a UHF
antenna (channels 14-69?). Here is a pic of what antenna.org
states are the stations in my area (Western NY; near Buffalo):

http://home.adelphia.net/~z0dd/Stations.JPG
http://home.adelphia.net/~z0dd/Directions.JPG

These are the stations that I'm able to get a picture of:
4 (VERY blurry)
17 (Clearest of all the stations; good quality)
23 (quite blurry)
26 (blurry)
29 (some blur)
49 (lots of static)

My question is, why can't I get any reception for the channels
below? They are 100% static:
33 (live; 4th from top on antenna .org list)
39 (live; 7th from top on antenna .org list)
43 (live; 8th from top on antenna .org list)

Am I doing something wrong? I tried moving the Silver Sensor,
twisting it to every compass direction, holding it to the ceiling,
and cursing at it!!

Corey Says-

Did you scan for channels with your tuner per Manual? Maybe you need a
regular antenna on your roof that isn't so directional dependant. Or maybe
your not using a HD digital capable tunner.

Paul:

Do you plug your VHF antenna into a Samsung T151 HD tuner?....

And the Tuner into the TV HD 'monitor'....

I just ordered an OTA Samsung T151 HD Tuner from Walmart

via their Web site for $300.

I'll be going thru the same 'experiment' when my Sony 510

is delivered. I have a shot at 6 HD channels within a 3 deg angle

on Scray's hill in WI.

Sorry, I should have been more clear about what I'm using. I currently do
not have a HD tuner or any receiver, just a HDTV monitor and an antenna
(still waiting on the HD300). I wanted to see if I could get the OTA digital
channels that play HD content during prime time. I know I wouldn't be able
to see it in HD, but I thought I could see the digital channels in 480i.

Maybe I'm confused as to how this works. If a UHF channel is listed as
digital, do I need something other than my set and antenna to decode/display
it? I'm doing this on a new set and haven't learned what all of the menus
do, even though I read the manual.

Help!

Thank folks.

According to the FCC on air status dated 7/30/2003 channel 43 WNED-DT is
not yet on the air. Keep in mind that the FCC on air status is not 100%
correct. WGRZ-DT channel 33 and WIVB-DT channel 39 appear the only two
digital stations you can currently get. Try aiming your antenna about
156 degrees.

The 100% static you are seeing is an analog tuner tuned to a digital
channel, for channels 33 and 39. Its hard to tell if the noise is from a
digital channel or just snow; they look much the same. Some tuners first
try for a digital channel and if there is no digital channel it will
tune for an analog channel. Check that your tuner is in-fact an ATSC
digital tuner. My nephew, as an example, spent hours trying to get his
new HDTV set to tune digital channels. All he saw was 100% static, just
like your situation. Finally, in great frustration he called me. He
assured me that the sales people told him that the set was provided with
the digital tuner; but, after some investigation the HDTV set had no
digital tuner. The sales people did not under stand the deference
between the two tuners. HDTV was great once he hooked up a digital tuner
to his set.

Update.

I think my problem is that my new HDTV doesn't have a digital tuner,
so I can't get any digital OT channels, HD or not.

Trying to find out if my XBR 910 has a built in digital tuner. Manual
doesn't say.

This is a prime example of how literally 20 seconds of www.google
research in advance could have saved hours of fruitless labor.
Even Circuit City's XBR910 spec page has this statement:

"Requires a high-definition receiver to receive HDTV broadcasts"

The XBR910 does not have a built in digital tuner. Very few TVs
have this, although they say they're an "HDTV" which is misleading.
Even my new 32" Panasonic says HDTV 1080i right on the front panel,
but it only means it's capable of displaying an HD signal if i send it
one, which requires you get a separate Set Top Box (STB). My manual
states this clearly, doesn't the Sony manual have information of
how to recieve HD broadcasts?

FNG's. How ironic that your man-hours were included in this
"fruitless labor". Maybe it wasn't so "fruitless" after all!

You MUST have a DTV receiver to get DTV/HDTV.
