I don't think BSkyB have yet set a "card-only" price for those already
with boxes for their "Freesat" service.

So it sounds like Freeview off air plus Freesat with card.

Where will they find space for it on Freeview? ITV's half of Mux 2 is
already full with ITV1, ITV2 and ITV News.

ITV has today revealed that its new digital channel for older viewers,
ITV3, will launch in November as a free-to-air offering showcasing
Hollywood movies and classic dramas such as Cold Feet and Inspector
Morse.

It is thought that ITV's third mainstream channel, targeting upmarket
viewers over the age of 35 with an appetite for drama, will be
broadcast on Freeview, BSkyB's proposed free-to-air satellite offering
and cable.

ITV's director of programmes, Nigel Pickard, claims the channel will
be the home of classic drama and movies, with a line-up of programmes
designed to appeal to a wide-ranging audience. Schedules will include
repeats of popular shows like The Bill, Heart Beat and The Royal, as
well and new commissions and behind the scenes exposés of major ITV
dramas.

Yet another channel showing repeats, pot-boilers, old films, and
"celebrities".

And probably another dose of 20-minutes an hour of adverts, too.

Some channel has to go. I suspect ITV will not want to lose ITV news,
but that is a possibility. May be they are guessing that TopUp TV
will have died by then!

Why would ITV be entitled to broadcast on former TUTV channels in that

case?

Of course ITV would not be entitled to broadcast on former TUTV
channels. The problem is at the moment is that however much money you
have there are only a limitted number of channels, and TUTV has 4 of
them. If and when TUTV goes to the wall, my guess is that ITV will be
very interested in getting its hands on some of the bandwidth.

Exactly my point! If ITV would be interested, why would others not be?

Obviously they would have to buy it like anyone else, but my guess is
that they would be prepared to pay what they need to to get it.

I doubt that very much following the On-Digital/ITV fiasco.

Although I would like all my TV to be 'free' this is not likely to
happen on any platform.

Agreed. No channel is free, since they have costs and/or need to make a
return for investors. The BBC is not free due to the need for a licence and
ITV recoups its costs via advertising which makes the advertisers' overheads
go up.

Maybe, but Top Up TV isn't looking like much of a hit, and my

a return to the "status quo" which existed when everything was analogue,
that is mostly subscription channels on satellite and cable, and all

I sincerely hope so. We can only wait, see and lobby.

And more importantly not subscribe or buy anything from a shopping channel.
The way to get better and fairer FTA service.
