Please indulge me for a moment... I'm at the end of my rope.
Been waiting for ESPN HD for a long, long time. I subscribed to it from Day 1. Their sports in HD is unreal. I could not be happier. Well... I could not be happier with the *picture*, that is. The audio is a different story. I started experiencing audio dropouts during ESPN's hi-def programs. Every 10-12 seconds.. like clockwork. It was like I hit the mute button every 10 seconds, and it lasts for about a half a second. Last week, I replaced the entire dish (for unrelated reasons), and got a brand new triple LNB with it. Still having the same problem. I'm sitting here watching the Braves/Cardinals game, and it looks absolutely beautiful. But the constant audio dropouts makes it unwatchable. This is only happening with ESPN HD. The other channels on the 110 LNB (HDNM, Discovery HD, etc.) do not have this audio problem. Is ANYONE else experiencing this issue with ESPN HD??? To say that I am frustrated is the understatement of the century. Thanks, -Dave |

Have I mentioned what a slow non-responsive piece of crap my Panasonic STB is yet? If not...I want to say that save for no audio dropouts on ESPN HD, my Panasonic STB is the worst home theater purchase I've ever made. It's so laughably slow and non-responsive that Panasonic should pay me for having to put up with it. When I upgrade to a new HD/PVR Direct TV STB when they become available, out of the goodness of my heart I won't even try to sell my piece of crap slow and unresponsive Panasonic to some sucker on the internet. I'll just eat it or set it on a pedestal as an example of the worst piece of crap slow and unresponsive STB ever made....and when I say that, I'm talking about the Panasonic. |

Thanks, -Dave Comcast had drop out issues of audio on HD in the SF bay area when it first rolled out, though I was told it was at the head end. It has cleared up, though it does happen on rare occasions just as you describe. |

To say that I am frustrated is the understatement of the century. People with RCA DTC-100 receivers (or the RCA F38310, or the Proscan equivalent) are having this problem. I have it on my F38310. Bingo, Jeff. I have the DTC-100. Good to know that I won't be checking into the insane asylum today... ;-) I'll give that fix a try. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply. I can cure it 100% of the time by calling up the guide, waiting for that to stabilize, then exit the guide. Don't just hit "Guide" then immediately hit "Exit". Others have reported that going in to the signal strength screen solves the problem for them. RCA and DirecTV know about this, and are working on it. -- Jeff Rife | 301-916-8131 | http://www.nabs.net/Cartoons/Dilbert/TechBigot.gif |

Glad to know that it is not just me who is experiencing these audio
dropouts. I have an RCA DTC-100 and get ESPN-HD over DirecTV. I posted a question about this on the AVS Forum and got no responses. The dropouts are significant in frequency and only seem to occur during ESPN- HD broadcasts. The channel seems fine when they are showing their stretched and cropped SD stuff. I was wondering if it had something to do with their audio encoder. In Dave wrote: Please indulge me for a moment... I'm at the end of my rope. Been waiting for ESPN HD for a long, long time.
