Default Picture freezing

The pictures runs for a number of seconds then freezes, then after a few
seconds runs again, and then freezes and so on.

The picture is clear and sharp, no complaints about the quality.

Does this suggest that the dish is at fault?

Is there a site for FAQ on this particular subject?

I'm getting the same problem viewing Freeview via a boosted set top aerial -
I wonder if signal strength is the cause (mine is around 60-75%).

My signal strength was okay. In the end I took out the viewing card and
unplugged the receiver for 5 minutes or so. I wiped the card and put in back
in and connected the receiver. All seems to be working at the moment.

You can boost signal strength but you can't boost carrier/noise ratio. Once the
signal has gone thro an amp the strength reading is meaningless.

I still have a *small* problem, with freezing, withe arguable too much
amplification. I blame sparking round the insulators on electricity
pylons about a mile away, I have not been able to prove this even to my
satisfaction :-(

Good grief, a mile ? :-) If the insulators are tracking that much, I would
have thought that the pylon owner would be grateful to hear of the problem.
If you can hear the problem on a normal broadcast box, say portable radio,
give the owner a telcall. I did similar many years ago, was thanked and
linesmen fixed within days.
