Default You card sharks are on another planet - TUTV

Me thinks SECA2 will be in use from the start, as it was already being
planned by ITVD at the time they went out (So it is obviously possible to
update any old ITVD box easily). Not that I think the service will

succeed
at all, hackers or no hackers, its not going to work I don't think. Most
ITVD/OnDigi boxes have been dumped or been converted to door stops as they
were so slow and didn't fully support MHEG and I really can't see people

who
already have brand new freeview equipment going out and buying again to

pay
for a few channels. Last but not least, the whole concept of freeview was
that the service was free to view, and that's why people went out and

bought
a box in the first place. If they had wanted to take out a subscription

and
pay for television, they could have easily gone the Sky route and got a

box
installed for a pound. They didn't go out and pay 50 to 100 pounds for a
freeview box in order to start paying a monthly sub, however cheap it may
be. And that is why it will never work.

Why would On digital boxes be a doorstop? Mine works fine, digital text may
not be fast but I use Ceefax if I want a decent service. I don't bother with
F2P. The only reason MHEG doesn't fully work is it needs a software update,
which can easily be done now top up have the rights to do it. Why pay at
least £50 for a new box unless you want two???

I'm very pleased with my Daewoo Freeview box bought last month and my old
OnDodgy box is propped up behind the door, although it still works slowly I
might put it on Ebay for sale.
Mike.

Someone else mentioned they had chucked theirs away, don't you know anyone
that would appreciate a free-freeview box - or it giving stuff away
something that goes against the grain. Mine found a good home.

I'm sure it's not imposible to hack, even though I don't have any technical
knowledge about it. I know that sky are unhackable and send out new cards
when people get close. I don't think TUTV would have the resources to stop
people hacking it and dishing out new cards every year or so.

And that is why it will never work.

And that's why people will try hacking the thing.

I put my original ONdigital box on eBay hoping to get a few quid for
it - somebody ended up paying £70 plus postage ;-)
