Panasonic TUCT20 Freeview Boxes have 4:3 conversion error

I would like to warn prospective purchasers of this box that
widescreen transmissions, which they mostly are these days, viewed on
the 4:3 option, result in slightly wide faces and about an inch
missing beyond the sides of the screen. The picture and sound are
otherwise good, and most people are oblivious to the defect.

Did you just buy it? Why didn't you get the TUCT30 as the 20 is now
obsolete and won't be supported by Panasonic.

obsolete and won't be supported by Panasonic.

Yep very anoying, if you put the box in 4:3 mode to feed a 4:3 tv
(which doesn't have a means of putting the tube in 16:9 mode) then the
picture is the wrong aspect ratio (people look squished) with slight
black bands top and bottom and bits missing beyond the sides, it is
the one thing that would stop me recommending this box (well and the
lack of a timer), don't know if the newer TUCT30 does it as well.

I haven't been able to establish yet if the problem has been fixed in
the TUCT30. It's very annoying that they have moved on to a new product
and abandoned TUCT20 owners with this problem.

I haven't been able to establish yet if the problem has been fixed in
the TUCT30. It's very annoying that they have moved on to a new product

I've got one and I'm completely oblivious to it! I've just wrenched it off
CBeebies and flicked through all channels - all looks fine (especially Emily
on BBC1 London news!) My TUC T20 is hooked up to a seriously cheap Pacific
20" TV (with 3 year warranty from Asda) in the kids playroom.

Which is the reason I won't ever buy a Panny digibox. You don't see MS
stopping support of an OS just cos a new one is out. Please no mentions of
Win95 or 98 - these came out of the ark and deserve to be dumped. They are
the bane of the programmers life and I'm sick of sorting out problems on 9x
that just don't exist on 2K and XP.
