Sky+ Non-Subscription Alternative?

Can anyone please tell me whether there is a off-the-shelf alternative to
the SKY+ box, that can be bought for a one off payment and does not require
a subscription, so that I can record / pause etc Freeview / Analogue
channels?

TiVo, Thomson DTH7000, Panasonic DMR-HS2 or DMR-E100, the list goes
on.

pace do a great box, its fairly cheap at argos now too and is just an out
the box solution with no extra to pay (As long as you can recieve freeview
etc), its freeview channels and cant record from sky or analogue. search for
"pace" on argos.co.uk it will give you some more details
