Default Nebula fast rewind wont work.. any ideas?

After recording with my nebula card, I find that playback and fast forward
work fine with the remote, but fast rewind doesn't work. The recording
starts from the beginning again...! Rather frustrating when I just want to
listen to a few seconds I missed cos the wife chirped up : - (

It means I have to start the recording from the start point again, and fast
forawrd it to the place I want. Any ideas why my fast rewind won't work?

Thanks
JL

a feature that has yet to be released (i believe it is not part of the
mpeg2 standard, hence it's late arrival). the feature is due to be
released in v3.1 due 30th November (see
http://www.nebula-electronics.com/do.../downloads.asp for details)

mpeg2 video compression is optimised for playing forwards. It stores the
difference between one frame and the next in a way that is easily read going
forwards but much harder reading it the other way. A complete frame is only
stored 1 in 5 frames or so. You see the same effect on DVD players, fast
forward is very smooth at 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x etc. but rewind is much more jerky

as for nebula not being able to rewind at all I agree that is something they
should work on. but unless you have a different video standard, or have a
buffer of the previous frames and a require a lot of processing power to
calculate the frames in reverse, rewinding mpeg2 will never be as smooth as
fast forwarding

You can't rewind but you can skip back. The amount of time it jumps by
can be altered in the settings.

If you set it to something like 30sec it makes quite a good rewind,
hitting skip-back half a dozen times will take you back 3 minutes
faster than a rewind would of done.

Unfortunately you can't seem to use the remote control to do this. It's a
real pity because it would be ideal for skipping adverts. I'd prefer to
use the foward wind and rewind on the remote to skip rather than the
normal function but I can't find a way to change it.
