Default Poor signal - advice please

I live in halls of residence (ground floor, opposite side of the
building to where all the local aerials point) in Coventry and have a
Hauppauge DEC-2000t digi box hooked up to my laptop. There is an
aerial socket connected into my room, but digital reception is
currently at about 12-15%. I bought a digital TV signal booster from
Maplins, but has had little effect on the reception (maybe 1%
increase). Now, Coventry is not currently listed as digital enabled
(does anyone know when it will be?) but I'd very much like to recieve
digital TV especially as I've just bought a TV license. Would I be
advised to buy the biggest outdoor aerial I can find and hang it from
my celing? Or would that not help?I have directions for the nearest
digital-enabled transmitter.

Many thanks in advance,

chris

CV2 and CV3 postcodes seem ok but not CV4 and CV1. I guess you are in
CV1?

Your only hope is to get a room on the top floor of one of the tower
block halls in the centre or the one at Bell Green and point your
aerial towards Sutton Coldfield.

After further research it seems that the aerial in my halls is
pointing at Allesley Park which is in rough enough direction for the
Sutton Coldfield digital transmitter. Huge setback is that Allesley
Park uses virtical polarisation, wheras Sutton uses horizontal, which
rules out the hall's aerial. Oh balls.

Have I no chance using a Star Wars style aerial in my ground floor
room?

cheers in advance,

chris

You could ask your 'landlords' if they have any plans to install an
aerial suitable for digital. They may not even be aware that the current
aerial is unsuitable - until someone tells them
