Default Telewest Digital RGB problem with Philips 32PW6506 tv

I have seen a similar problem elsewhere in this board, but I'm not
sure if it's the same as the one I'm experiencing. I have a Telewest
Pace 1000 STB, connecte via SCART to a Philips 32PW6506. The picture
is OK when composite mode is ected via Telewest settings menu, but
when RGB is selected the picture becomes darker, and the
colour/contrast shades change depending on proportion of light and
dark on the picture. Changing the settings on tv doesn't help much.
Other than this, picture is crisper than in composite mode.

I have emailed Telewest support. They indicated that they could
improve picture quality by changing a scart pin, but this would
require an engineer call out at £25. This actually surprised me, as
I would have expected TV (or possibly STB) to be at fault, or might
there be an incompatibility?

An email to Philips generated a less than helpful response.

Before I start calling out engineers, etc. I wondered if anyone had
any suggestions?

Hi Richard
I had a similar problem with my 32PW6506 except I had a blue tinged picture
when RGB was selected on my sky digibox (Grundig) or my Toshiba 220E DVD
player. The tv was sent away for repair (Endeva) and it was discovered that
there was a problem with the voltage/power settings on my tv. The
voltage/power system was replaced and as I now use a Philips DVDR880 I
haven't had any problems with my digibox going through it. The DVDR880 also
displays a perfect RGB picture too. I do suspect that my tv will always work
best with a Philips product connected to it. Don't ask me why-it just does!
When I connect my digibox or Toshiba DVD player directly to the tv I never
get as good a picture via RGB as I do via my Philips DVDR880.

You could try buying a new high quality SCART lead. Teleworst "engineers"
usually create more problems than they solve!

I have also come to the conclusion that the problem is somewhere in
the TV. I have tried a bit of mixing and matching and other
combinations seem to work fine. For example, when I connect the
digibox to our (relatively) cheap portable and select the RGB output,
the picture is fine (it is working, because there's an improvement on
the composite and a horizontal shift of the picture.
However, the tv also displays the RGB output correctly of the (also
cheap) BUSH dvd which we have just purchased!
Anyway, I'm going to call Philips technical supportto see if they can
advise further.
