Default Upgrade to Sky+

All -

Has anyone managed to get Sky to let them upgrade to Sky+ from std Sky on
the 'New Users' deal?

The difference is outrageous for existing, loyal customers.

I don't really want to have to cancel & renew under the wife's name.....

TIA

Considering if you join as a current customer you will be saving in excess
of £150 for the box and £60 for the install if you take up multiroom, I
think it's very fair indeed.

There has to be a better incentive to get a new customer than keep an
exisiting one.

True, but I believe that the same deal should be avaiable to all. I don't
want multiroom, and even then, it is still more expensive than a new user.

Surely this is the same principle that the mortgage companies have taken
flak over - restricting the best deals too the new customers?

But you already got a good deal when you first became a Sky customer, why
should you be entitled to another.

These offers are primarily focused to getting new customers.

Exactly, they have taken flak over it.

Beyond me why companies want to alienate long standing customers in
preference to attracting new ones.
They assume existing customers wont bother jumping ship, but I believe more
people are getting more savvy to this.

I had the same run in with O2 yesterday. They want £59.95 to upgrade to the
new I fancied, yet I can get it free as a new customer on an even cheaper
monthly tarrif then I am on. Because I am out of contract I can easily move
my number to a new provider. I can even cancel my contract, and start again
with O2 as a new customer. It was only after much argueing of these points
they they said they would give me two months line rental for free - but I
still had to pay £59.95 for the phone.

Of course Sky have more of a monopoly position in terms of satellite TV, so
they can pretty much do as they please.
