Default Sky Pricing and Customer Service

I have been thinking of upgrading to SKY+.

I called them today after reading this group - specifically the £209 charge
to upgrade (£149 plus £60 installation) for existing subscribers against £99
for new subscribers.

Like many, I got nowhere. I told them I have been a Sky customer since near
the beginning, spending over £5000 in that time. No movement in price!

I tried this several times as suggestec in this NG with no progress.

So I cancelled!
The subscriptions have gone up and the programmes have gone down hill. Sky+
would have kept me, but not under these circumstances.

I have NEVER come across a company who treats their customers this badly.
To charge a premium of over 100% for longstanding customers is unforgivable.
Every other company rewards existing loyal customers where Sky treats them
with contempt and screws them.

I was pretty ****ed off this week, suffering the same response
repeatedly. Apparently, if you are persistent enough, they will
eventually buckle and offer you the =A399.00 deal, but I'm not feeling
very optimistic about that scenario at the moment.

I sympathise, having experienced the same response, despite being told
that repeated requests to SKY would result in their eventually offering
the =A399.00 deal. Don't see it happening at the moment though.

I have done many times. Once you are out of contract thay will all allow
you to cease and be treated as a new customer and get whatever benefits are
available.

If you still want the £99 Sky+ you can get one by having your
wife/lodger/dog start a new sub. Do not mention the old sub at all.

There's a big difference here. If you want a new phone you can just
ditch your network and go to another. The choice is large.

For UK DSAT there is no choice. For DSAT PVR (Sky+ type) units
compatible with UK channels there is even less choice.

For sure. Just making the point that when I've tried to "upgrade" my
mobile phone with the same provider, they screw you. So you either have
to cancel and get a new number, or port to another network.

Why should that be, why can't they look after their current customers?
