Default TV Screen Size

I wish to by a 16x9 TV. My concern is that different size screens sometimes
cut off the top and bottom, or the sides of the pictures even when in the
correct mode, in other words not TRUE 16x9. Because of this, what diagonal
screen size should I go for and also avoid. i.e.. it seems that 44"
widescreen TV's cut off the top and bottom of picture

I have a 28" screen and I don't get any cut offs at top or bottom!

As long as your stb is set to 16:9 and your tv is set to auto you will get
the correct ration when watching sateltite.

The one thing I hate is when people turn thier 4:3 broadcast into a 16:9
picture. My Bro does that on his tv, adn it looks crap!

I've never seen a 16:9 TV that wasn't the right shape (16:9) but all
do have some amount of overscan. I think that you may be confusing the
two issues.

You could always just measure the screen if you are concerned.

With some LCD and Plasma sets you need to check whether the display is truely
16:9.
Some are actually 15:6, some are 16:10
There are issues both with the physical display size and with the resolution,
both or either of which might not be true 16:9.

It isn't the diagonal size that counts, but the ratio of width to height of both
screen size and resolution

Carefully check both and you should be OK.

I think you mean 15:9... although with 15:6 you wouldn't get people
moaning about the "black bars" at the top and bottom any more!
