Default Cancelling contract to take advantage of new offers

I've been a Sky customer since 1998 on their top package. By virtue of a
friend moving in, I now have 2 Sky digiboxes and I want to get the second
installed so I can take advantage of the 'have a second box' offer.

Now I've called up Sky about this and they won't install it unless I buy a
box off them for about £100. I already have a box so unnecessary really. I
moved house about 6 months ago and had to pay for the re-installation back
then which I wasn't too happy about. At the time, I popped into a local Sky
dealer and was told that if I cancelled my contract and started a new one
with them, then I could get free installation and a new box and could
probably persuade the installation people to install the existing box as
well. Then I could just get a second card @ £10 a month (as don't need box
or installation) and everyone's a winner. I'd have been tied down for
another 12 months but I'm not going anywhere.

When I called up Sky, I was told that this wasn't the case and I really
couldn't be bothered to argue but after sharing the remote for a month, I
now am! Is there any reason why I couldn't just cancel and take out a new
contract? They say it's one per household but when I signed up I was at
another address. They also say that the guy in the shop was lying because he
was just after a commission and that if I did do that, then I'd be billed
£300(?). I'm happy to let my brother sign up for it in his name as he has
never had Sky before. What do you think?

As you already pay the full sub why not just get a Sky+ installed? Sky
will connect an old box for a small fee at the same time and you can
still have your £10 mirror (aka multiroom) card.

You can cancel and have your brother subscribe to Sky+ as a new
subscriber, thus saving about £100. Your old card will give you the
FTV channels in the old box.

nope its one per household 'fraid

install aint that dificulut to do yourself for a second box then just fone
us up for another card @ a tenner a month robbers that we are
they'd be suss if your brother foned up for a contract after you cancelling
yours as sales staff will query the surnames being the same although this
could be got round with some serious blagging.

can you not get a friend to put it in their name for you? that way the names
would be different ????????

alas thou if you were to fone c/s you would prolly get you second box
installed for 60 notes which although not cheap aint too bad

or even attempt it yourself just give the lnb a quick check first

As far as I know they'd charge £149 for the Sky+ box with free installation.
They'll move the digibox to another room and connect it up free as well, as
long as you take out a mirror subscription (+£10pm).
