Default Advice Needed

Hi, recent heavy rain has moved the satellite dish out of alignment...
First thing we did was to ring sky... they guided us on turning off the LNB
power supply & 22KHz command and then reseting all of the settings but this
only worked for an evening and the picture & sound was freezing again in the
morning. Rang up sky yesterday and they want to charge £65 to get someone
out to take a look at it. Seems a bit steep to just move the dish a little
bit. I tried to get them to explain the price but due to their excellent
customer relations they haven't bothered to reply. Any suggestions?

Must've been 'really' heavy rain to move a dish ! - Possibly some water has
got into the coax cable and degrading the signal ??

In either case it will probably be cheaper to go to an independant and get
him to look (and quote).

Remember that the £65 will cover everything that needs doing - even a
new/recon box. - Oh and a 3 month warranty too.

Rain won't do that. Wind will but not rain.

If that worked then your dish probably hasn't moved at all.

morning.


This could be water ingress into the LNB or cable, a dying LNB, a
mis-aligned dish or a dying tuner.

Let me fully explain... In a thunder storm with lightning and heavy rain the
picture & sound became jerky. This usually stops after the rain has finished
however this time it continues. The fact that there is a blockage in the
drain pipe above the satellite dish results in water pouring directly onto
the dish in the event of heavy rain.
There are limited channels being affcted... Sky 1 & sky 1 mix, UK Gold, +1
(but not UKG2), Kerrang, Sky Sports & Paramount (but not Paramount 2).

If water had got into the works then wouldn't all channels be affected? Its
the fact that only a select number of channels that are being affected that
is making it hard for me to figure out the problem and especially in the
case of paramount when the first channel is being affected and paramount 2
is absolutely fine.

Fix that problem first. You can't expect anything to work properly
like that.

All the problems I described can affect some channels and not others,
though at some point all channels will probably go the same way.

Channels use different frequencies and transmission strengths. This
makes a big difference to the signal received and a slight problem may
be enough to upset weaker channels but not others.

I used to get the same when it rained heavily(affected only some channels),
got the dish re-aligned and everythings been fine since, even in heavy rain.

And this will avoid the hassle in what way?
BTW, are you going to get the drain blockage fixed, or do you intend paying
Sky £65 every time it rains heavily?
