Default Getting rid of the red dot?

A friend of mine has a programmable remote control unit which somehow, he
can't remember how, is programmed to send erase the on screen red dot (I
assume through some sort of regular key press).

I can't find anything like the remote unit he has for sale in high street
shops - does anyone know of a unit that performs the anti red dot function?

Gareth.

I don't really understand what you mean, but surely if you mean the small
'interactive' red blippy thing, you can just press Backup?

I might have missed the point.

Because the ******* things come back after EVERY ad break.

And the software was changed so you can only do red-then-backup if you're
watching a channel when either (a) there's a programme onscreen and not an
advert, and (b) the red dot isn't onscreen.

An example would be when Will & Grace was on inbetween Big Brother, so doing
red-then-backup would not make the dot appear during BB.

Here's what I bought to keep the red dot idiocy at bay:

http://www.skyeye.force9.co.uk/skyeye.htm

I hope the link works, having a few problems with .co.uk DNS resolution on
Pipex this evening...

The SkyEye can be temporarily disabled, by turning off the Second Outlet
Power Supply. This will allow full access to the EPG, and allow you to play
along with interactive 15-to-1 etc. When you want to re-enable the SkyEye,
simply turn the Second Outlet Power Supply back on again via the digibox
menu. This is controlled from your remote control so there is no need to
leave your seat to do this (provided you are in the same room as the
digibox).

...and one other thing: These don't work with Sky+, because they knacker any
recording or playback unless you turn the Sky-eye power off as per above.
For this reason, I don't use mine since I upgraded to Sky+ last October.
sigh

However, with Sky+ it's even easier to get around - you just pause for a
couple of seconds and then continue. The red dot doesn't re-appear (at
least for the time being, until they get wise and update the code)....

I find it rather offensive that such a gizmo is necessary. If one were
to purchase a satellite receiver rather than get one from Mr Murdoch
are there any with code that allows the interactive to be switched
off?

Doh! OFA (One For All), not FTA.
