Why do all car/household/other insurance ads on TV say at the bottom "not available in N Ireland"? How do Ulster people get insurance? Is it really that lawless there that no-one is insured? Or does the government insure everything and everyone? Just wondering... No not so much lawless there are places on the mainland that are much worse now. Simple reason for a lot of it is that the company doesnt have a local agent to check claims etc and its too much bother to set up an office. Apparently the traffic laws are a bit different and if you are involved in a car accident and end up in court over it then you will given a full trial with a jury, which of course means that your legal fees will cost a lot more. Therefore a lot of insurance companies are not prepared to offer cover. Obviously there must be some that do. There are also other differences in the traffic laws, such as it being compulsory for newly qualified drivers to wear plates on their car for a year indicating that they are newly qualified. All of this was told to me by a taxi driver so may or may not be completely accurate. Think this may be true - plus a Jury will tend to be more generous with compensation than a Judge (GB). "SkyTech" wrote in message news:bAtSc.209 ... yeah taxi drivers are a good source of info sometimes like the one round livingston who is convinced that sky doesnt need the dishes and its all a big con with the dishes so you pay for installation lol I live in N Ireland. There are lots of local insurance companies plus national one (elephant etc). Lots of laws are different here not just traffic laws. Newly qualified driver do have to legally display "R plates" for a year and are redtricted to 45mph for the year...Not that the standard of driving is any better! |
