Default Sky + Sound Levels

Please can anyone help with the following problem,

I have noticed that the sound level output from a Sky + box varies some.

When using Sky + watched through a normal TV ie, RF coax connection, a live
program on say BBC1 or Sky 1 is the same volume as the program recorded (
recorded a 20 sec clip of same program then played back ).....all ok

Any Sky Movies presentation, whether through TV RF or through Amp via
optical was a lot quieter than say Sky 1. approx 1/3 down on sound.

Any Sky Movie presentation recorded was quieter still with the level being
slightly lower than the live movie broadcast, however at least half the
volume of Sky 1 for example on normal live broadcast

any comments.....

Also the sound output level adjustment with the sound menu, what does this
control, ie, the live volume, recorded volume, both ?? etc.

Any help would really be appreciated as it is becoming a real pain. for
example you watch a film on Movies played back through an amp via optical
connection...amp set at about -37dbm....good volume, you then stop movie and
go back to say Sky 1 and the volume nearly blows the windows out !! same
audible level is achieved then with the amp set at say -65dBm.

Please help !!

This is normal because the movies are probably in Dolby Digital and the
dynamics of the sound are greater. People talking will be quieter, but
scenes will be very loud. Even stereo movies can be like this as they hold
inside them hidden surround sound information for prologic output.

I run through an AV Amp all the time for all sound. If you do the same you
may have night time mode on it that normalises the sound so the lower and
louder sounds are closer together.
