I know there's been several posts on this topic before, but had an old
episode of Friends on E4 the other night and did the usual routine of pressing backup to get rid of the "Big Brother Live" red button. And pressed backup again when it came back. And again. And again. And again. Eventually lost count but must have been about a dozen times throughout the programme. Normally you get away with one backup until the adverts then another until the end of the programme but this is getting ridiculous. Looks like it's doing the same again tonight. |

I have complained to OFCOM about these on-screen prompts and similar distractions. Below is an extract from their reply. "The use of such logos and graphics is a relatively new area and as such we're taking a pragmatic approach to its regulation. We are concerned about the quality standards of the public service providers, and are keen to ensure that such displays should not proliferate on the main terrestrial channels, particularly where this interferes with the narrative of dramas or compromises the editorial integrity of a programme. But it's difficult to establish hard and fast rules. Ultimately, whether this practice is desirable or irksome is for viewers to decide and it is really only their preference that will dictate such matters over time. Where viewers make us aware of a widespread problem we will contact the licensee. However, the low volume of complaints we’ve received to date doesn’t suggest widespread concern warranting such action at this stage." I suggest anyone who feels the same about this garbage on our screens should make OFCOM aware. I have tried the BBC on a number of occasions but just get ignored or told that they are helpful to viewers. Paul.
