It would be nice if someone pointed out to UKTV that they could show
more adverts (and get more revenue) if they didn't show quite so many
trailers, break bumpers and other bits of branding. Adverts don't
bother me quite as much as all their marketing stuff; at least I know
they help them to pay for the programmes.

mh.

Especially when those trailers are repeated twice in every ad-break. I have
avoided certain shows because of this - They look interesting at first, but once
it has been repeated upto 12 times in one hour, I've lost interest. Add to this
the 'adverts' that are permanently displayed in the corners of our TV screens
(Three days to go... etc), and I simply grow to hate whatever programme they are
advertising and that's before I've even watched it... Simply because of the
over-exposure they receive in repeated trailers and on-screen DOGs.

We have Sky because it was the cheapest way to get decent reception in
our house. If we stopped paying the subscription, would we get
anything at all?

I managed to obtain a free-to-view card before they were taken off the
market at the beginning of this year. That gives me BBC1, 2, 3, 4, ITV1,
Channel 4, Channel 5 and a lot of free channels such as Fashion TV, the
Vault as well as many shopping and religious channels. For a noe-off
payment of 23.50 that's not too bad.

Ummmm Yeah Right another £30 quid for inventing the wheel again ! (old
instillation cost £120 NOW £150) I am sure the whole 81 radio channels will
be included in this package !. I guess at least everyone can watch those
crappy free channels now, well apart from the Horror Channel (of course !
:-) )!.

Talk about collar the market, and remove the competition (freeview service).
There must be a mergers commsion to hand to input their thoughts on this
matter (there usually is-when it suits them anyway !!!!!!!!!). Typical UK
service SCREW the consumer, and line the pockets of the big giants !. No
wonder this country is slowly going down the toilet !, why dont those ****s
in the goverment make up, its not all about switching off analogue.

BBC Radio 6 News 10.30am

"BSKYB to offer a "Free To Air" rival to the Freeview service with 200
Radio and TV channels for a one off £150 pounds"

I suspect someone has got the wrong end of the stick somewhere as I
doubt it will be Free To Air but will require some form of FTV card

I also suspect many of those 200 channels will be Radio and Shopping
channels

Chris

IMHO
bskyb are just trying to get around the issue of itv ch4 and ch5 still
being encrypted whilst nominally being free to air(which they have to
be when analogue switch off happens). the bbc issuied solus cards free
which when the bbc were encrypted on sky gave access to itv ch4 ch5
but when bbc broadcast in the clear ,sky deactivated the cards so you
cant get itv ch4 ch5
and no other cards to view itv can be got right now without a
subscription, sky are essentially charging £150 pound for viewing itv
ch4 and ch5 .its only guarenteed for two years because then itv ch4
and ch5 can get out of the present arrangement and broadcast in the
clear.il bet they wont make available the viewing card which you will
definitly need for itv ch4 ch5 without stumping up the £150.

Actually the FTV card only gives you ITV1, ch4 and five, pull the card
out non of the others require it as they are FTA

The card only gives you ITV, C4 and C5. The other channels require no
card. These three channels are completely free on terrestrial analogue
and digital. To have to pay anything to receive them on satellite
seems like a rip-off to me.

I stand corrected. You are, of course, absolutely right.
I am also pleased with a number of the radio stations on Astra2 and would
be very pleased if it were possible to "auto-watch" these; i.e. be able to
have the digibox automatically switch to the desired radio station at the
desired time/date.

Regards,
Philip.

Mmm, Just a week or so later the BBC have to justify the licence fee and an
Ex Murdoch puppet shows all the DOG ridden alternatives on the news item
this evening.
No mention of ITV 2 on Sky's *free*view alternative either,Basically All I
see the freeview service as being is much an ex Sky subscriber sees with a
free to view card.
(O-K to mention the hundreds of channels but refrain from the likes of
QVC,Bid-up,auction-World and the umpteen other *non-normal TV channels like
those god awful American news channels with a quarter of a picture and the
rest being filled with share news and rubbish)

I've had Sky+ for a couple of years now and rarely find the need to press
the record button (A bit pointless on Sky channels anyway ruined by graffiti
on-screen)

I notice the guy on ITV's news defending the licence fee be scrapped did'nt
mention IF it was,We'd have no channels left at all without adverts (Did'nt
really expect him to being a paid up Murdoch puppet though)
Still, The plan is get the Licence fee scrapped and replace it with a
Murdoch fee eventually!

Another point is the Sky digibox must be the only item in the UK with about
7 or 8 different prices, surely a point for the DTI or similar to look into?

AFAICS, there is only one "price" for the Skybox - free of charge (unless
you mean for a replacement or additional box).

The current payment is for subsidised installation (if you are contracted to
a Sky package) or the economic cost f installation (if not signing a
contract).
