what a misleading representation.
You make it sound like it is BSB's fault the other broadcasters are "unable" to
screen these matches, whereas it was equally the other broadcasters decision not
to stump up the money.

Funny I don't remember ITV or the BBC screening 60 odd games a
year from the top flight of English footy when they had no rivals for
the TV rights.

Football is not _that_ popular. If you only have one or two channels as the BBC
& ITV had a few years ago you couldn't expect them to fill all the airtime with
football. It's easy for BSkyb, they have loads of channels to spread the
programming over.

Football as a whole is not popular you are correct hence the collapse of
the Nationwide deal with OnDigital and the low figures that European games
generate when they don't include a UK team.
However the right matches can generate viewing figures that BBC1 and ITV1
would be delighted with and a couple of games a week on average is not going
to overload those channels.
The BBC after all have paid an awful lot of money for FA cup games and
England home games and ITV splashed the cash along with SKY for the
Champions League games.

I look at the last decade or so and see that the terrestrial channels have only
shown an interest in the sport due to the success SKY have had with their
commitment and presentation of our national game.
Pity the old guard of the BBC and ITV didn't have the same faith in the game
that the upstart BSKYB had in 1992 because if they had then it would have
been much harder for SKY to sell footy to us if we had already been seeing the
same number of games on free telly for many years before hand.

I think that the ECB may well regret going Sky only. If nobody except a Sky
subscriber can watch Test Matches or even highlights of them or the one-day
matches then interest in all forms of cricket will diminish & the numbers of
people either playing & watching will decline.

Is this a new contract? I see CH4 have a number of home test matches
this summer..
I lost all interest in test and one day cricket when I got SKY back in 1992
having realised I only watched it because that was all the sport the TV showed
at the time, same goes for snooker and tennis. I was like an addict taking only
what the BBC and ITV fed me
I do like the 20/20 game though, great television and a good radio sport.

There was zero coverage on terrestrial TV of the recent West Indies tour.
England even won the series! It could have generated a lot of interest with
people who like you had lost interest in cricket. As it is the only people who
got to watch it are those who pay vast sums for Sky Sports & even then get
mostly blanket football coverage.

Sky Sports does not have blanket football coverage. Far from it.

Exactly.
But don't let that get in the way of people blaming Sky for everything...

Absolutely. Sky have revolutionised viewing in this country. Cast your mind
back 15 years when we had Match Of The Day and Rugby Special on a weekend
and that was it!
