Is this channel really available on freeview and yet part of the package on
Sky, the question is would I get this if I did not subscribe to a Sky
package but did have an up to date card.

Nope. Subscription only on Sky. Family Pack (£19.50/mth) or higher.

I think you may be confused here. Sky Sports News along with ITV2, UK History &
a number of other channels are available on Freeview the DVB-T that you received
through your TV aerial. If you con't subscribe to a Sky satellite service but do
have an up to date FTV Sky card the only extra channels that you will get are
ITV, CH4 & CH5. The BBC & other Free To Air channels don't need a card of any
sort.

I think this is like ITV2 in that you can get it free to air through
freeview
but on Sky digital you need a subscription package with it included.

It seems a strange policy, I am thinking of dumping my sucription and just
watching the FTA and FTV channels.I quite like Sky sports news though on a
Saturday.
