The computer at the call centre makes the call. If it isn't answered than nothing happens. If it is answered, the computer passes the call to the first available call centre assistant. If no-one happens to be available after about 20 seconds it drops the line. You're probably lucky that no-one has been available when you have answered the call! -- Keith Porter |

It might be sky trying to flog you an extended guarantee they called me about 4 times recently to try and flog me one (I was only in for the last call). -- Tumbleweed Remove my socks for email address |

Phone calls with no-one there, a click and then a dial tone is more likely
to be a telesales computer dialling (say) 50 sequential numbers when there only be 20 telesales 'agents' available to tackle whoever answers. Thus, if more than 20 people answer, the 21st, 22nd and so on get a dead phone and an automated hangup. Join the Telephone Preference Service - http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ - it won't stop them all (some ignore the law) BUT IT WILL STOP MOST. "huzden" wrote in message ... That's interesting - the Telecommunications (Data Protection and Privacy) Regulations 1999, section 25 (http://www.hmso.gov.uk/si/si1999/19992093.htm) is the Act which is relevant; came into effect only 4 years ago. The TPS did exist before then but it was purely voluntary with no legal backing. And your point is? (FWIW the double glazing call, Anglia IIRC, was about 2 years ago) -- Tumbleweed Remove my socks for email address |
