Default HELP! Old Sky Box as Freeview Box

Hello :-) I have been given an old Pace Sky receiver from a friend.
There are no cards with the box. He subscribed to Sky for many years
and has now moved abroad. He told me that the box could receive
certain channels as per Freeview and indeed it does. My question is
this, I believe that he left without paying the last few months of his
bill having had some sort of end of agreement argument with Sky. He
told me about this before giving me the Pace box and assured me that
it wasn't a problem but I'm not so sure.

The Pace box picks up a few extra channels but it's not worth it if
I'm going to have problems.

If I use this box am I,

a). In anyway in conflict with Skys terms and conditions (because no
card is inserted)?

b). Will Sky be able to trace me via the Pace box serial number and
ask me to settle my friends account? Am I liable for his debt because
I have his box? It was only about £60.00 I think.

c). Do they have the technology to be able to cross reference serrial
numbers of sat. boxes with peoples addresses?

I've seem similar boxes available for sale at Car Boot sales. What
happensd in those situations.

Any help greatly appreciated.
