Default Advice wanted on AV Receiver for Sky+

To plug a gap in my set-up I'd appreciate advice on an affordable AV
Receiver which can handle Sky+'s Dolby 5.1 output. Unfortunately...... I
just bought a Sony STR DE495 which looked to be up to the job, but only
reproduces DD Pro-Logic. My Home Theatre already does that!

Quick look at the specs of the DE495 says it has an optical input and
has Dolby Digital 5.1 decoding/amplification.
Not sure why you are having a problem.

Wish you were right, for that's exactly what I thought. It can only
deliver Dolby PL through the optical input. If you look at the spec of the
595, that gives it away - it actually says it decodes 5.1 signals. The 495
doesn't, I now crucially see.

I see what you mean, the wording is subtly different.
So the 495 could take an optical input from a DVD player that had a
DD decoder but not from the SKY+ that just passers the data through.
I would have to be honest and say even looking at the specs on the SONY
site and an online retailer they would be enough for me to assume that the
amp has DD decoding on board.

Mike

Grateful for your interest. Would you believe I've sorted it! In Sky
Settings, Sound shows "Normal" or "DolbyDigital".

Switched it over - Presto!
