To fix this problem (and the red dot problem in general), I'm about to
place an order for one of these:

What happens when, on rare occassions, you actually DO use interactive
features?

For example, switching off commentary on football games...

If these devices send a backup command to the box every few seconds, won't
it muck up the interactive features?

The version that I have normally sends a backup command every 30 seconds.
However it senses when you have sent a command from the remote & then delays the
next backup command to be 30 seconds after your last press on the remote. It is
completely transparent in action & a boon to all mankind.

So while I am watching a Football game on Sky Sports in "interactive mode" with the commentary
switched off, won't this device continuously return me to the multi-screen menu?
