I can't see that there's any technical reason why this should be so.

The technical reason is that the viewing card uses the live signal to
authorise decoding. This isn't a valid reason of course.

I got the impression that their was some delay between loss of signal
and the box refusing to playback (of the order of an hour, perhaps?).
It would be better if this delay were upped to 12 or 24 hours to
account for adverse winter weather conditions.

The support chap at Sky said I'd been the only person he knew of to
complain of this problem. Maybe if more of you complain to them
they'll do something about it!

That's possible. Sky are very cagey about how the authorisation is
achieved but I could imagine a signal coming through every hour or so.

They also say that no one wants a "view last channel" button yet this
is the one feature that has been requested most since Sky Digital
launched.

Just tried playing a movie that I had recorded and viewed while I had the
movie package over Christmas. I can still watch the movies I recorded but my
viewing package has gone back to the family pack !!

there's no demand for it..." :-)

I have a portable that has this facility and its excellent, makes it much
easier to watch two things at the same time, so to speak. Its labelled
'zap'!

I was referring to regular digiboxes though even for the Sky+ a "last
channel button" is indeed the most useful addition that could be made
to the remote control functions. It has always been the number one
request.
