Default BBC in widescreen shock

Did anyone notice that "Wonder Boys" was broadcast by the BBC last
night in the original theatrical 2.35:1 format without the usual 16/9
cropping?

Was this some sort of test transmission to see who applauds/complains
or was it just a mistake? Has anyone seen this previously on other
films?

On the off chance that it was the former, why don't we all write in
and applaud them? ;-)
