Default Sky v Freeview

I have Sky+ downstairs with full sub and sky digital upstairs with no sub, I
have just set up a free view system for someone and was surprised to find
sky sports news available to view.

How come he can get it free yet I can not get it on my second system, this
seems unfair as I pay full whack for the sky+ system.

Nick

SSN is a subscription channel on dsat so that is why you do not get it
on your second digibox, SKY offer a mirror card for £10 a month if you
want access to the same subscription channels as your SKY+ has.
On Freeview (The DTT service) SKY has three channels, they have chosen
to put some content on that platform and they can not charge a subscription
for access so they are broadcast in the clear.
For reasons known only to SKY they have included SKY Travel, SSN and
SKY News and will generate some advertising revenues from those channels.

You may consider it unfair but there are channels you can pick up on your
non-subscription digibox that are not present on Freeview, if you would rather
have the Freeview channels then go buy a box from as little as £50.

I used to have a mirror sub but I was not being used enough for it to be
worth the money.

That is annoying as surely the same applies to advertising on a Sky system,
someone with sky is surely more likely to subscribe to sky then someone with
a free view system.

You may consider it unfair but there are channels you can pick up on your
non-subscription digibox that are not present on Freeview, if you would

According to my post code check I would not get ssn on free view anyway

I have to say I am very happy with my Sky+ system and do most of my TV
viewing using it.

Thanks

Nick.

Hmm. Someone with $ky is more likely to know how truly crap it is and is
less likely to subscribe than an innocent who doesn't.
